Bathroom floors are a little different from the rest of the floors in your house. Not only do they need to provide support, but they also need to be waterproof- and fit in with your chosen bathroom décor. However, they are also an excellent opportunity for you to stamp your mark on the room, and there are plenty of materials from which to choose. If you’re thinking of undergoing a bathroom remodel, then you’ll want to know what options are open to you- and in this article, we’ll take you through them.
One of the most cost-effective flooring choices for a bathroom remodel is sheet vinyl. This only costs a dollar or two per square foot, and comes in 12-foot wide rolls that allow you to get a seamless installation. Unlike vinyl tiling, which can allow water to collect in between the tiles and potentially cause water damage, this sheet vinyl will put up with plenty of use without any issues- and it’s very easy to clean, too. You can even get textured vinyl that mimics the look and feel of more expensive materials like wood and stone, at just a fraction of the cost.
Another popular choice for bathroom floors is ceramic tiles. With tiles, the possibilities are virtually endless, since they come in so many shapes, sizes, and colors. They let you indulge your inner interior designer, as they are endlessly adaptable. You can get tiles in other materials such as glass or porcelain, although these tend to be more expensive than ceramics. One thing you should be wary of with tiles is that glazed tiles tend to be slippery when wet, which could lead to an accident when you’re getting out of the shower. To work around this, look for tiles that are slip-resistant, or opt for tiles under 4”x4” since the grouted area between them provides some much-needed grip.
At the top end of the scale is stone tiling, which can be impressive. From limestone and granite to more luxurious materials like marble, stone tiles bring a touch of class to any bathroom- although they do come with a higher price tag. While granite tiles might only cost a few dollars per square foot, you can expect to pay upwards of $100 for a square foot of marble tiling- so you might want to couple it with some less expensive flooring material.
